Cicada are a chamber ensemble from Taipei, Taiwan, formed in 2009. The group plays violin, cello, piano and acoustic guitar, and took their name from the insect because people know cicadas by their sound, not their shape. Since 2013 they have been writing music for the landscapes of Taiwan, from the western coastlines to the mountains and rivers inland. Their albums trace a slow journey across the island, building from quiet passages into something much bigger.
